Bonamanzi Game Reserve, a Big 4 Reserve, is a Natural Heritage Site bordered by the spectacular Lake St. Lucia Isimangaliso Wetlands – a World Heritage Site – and the magnificent Hluhluwe River.
This privately owned game reserve and safari lodge is widely recognised as one of the best birding destinations in Southern Africa. Lake St Lucia and the Hluhluwe River give Bonamanzi its Zulu name, meaning “Look, Water!”. Its almost 4000 ha teams with game, and one of Bonamanzi’s special features is that it provides a safe and interactive bush experience in which you can do walks or drive, with or without the company of a trained field guide. To see the Big Five animals, the famous Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve is a short 20 minute drive away or join us on one of our Game Drives.
A wonderful climate prevails all year long with splendid summers and warm winter days. Set your own pace as you absorb the peaceful sounds and spectacles of three adjoining eco-systems: coastal grassland, tropical forest, and woodland. Comfortable Accommodation and every facility is available to ensure that your stay is a pleasant one, be it a peaceful getaway for couples or families, or Conference and Events or Weddings. And there are plenty of Activities, from Boat Cruises, Bird Safari and Game Drives to relaxing at the pool at Lalapanzi Camp to ensure that your every whim is catered for.

Roughly translated from Zulu, Lalapanzi means ‘come and relax here’.
At the Lalapanzi Camp in Bonamanzi Game Reserve, you will find the ‘Out of Africa’ style Lalapanzi Restaurant which offers a sumptuous buffet to cater for all tastes.
Dinner, bed and breakfast are included in the rate for those who book to stay in the Lalapanzi Camp but the restaurant is open to bookings from anyone staying in any one of the self-catering units, and the general public.
One of the main attractions of the Lalapanzi camp is the simply stunning viewing lounge, built on stilts overlooking a large watering hole, where you can enjoy birds and even spot a crocodile or two.
Light Lunches are served at the viewing Deck.
Sitting there at sunset, with a gin and tonic, listening to the deafening sound of frogs is a moment you will never forget.
Candlelit bush braai’s in the middle of the indigenous forest near Dinizulu Dam are a real treat. Enjoy crisp linen and silverware, bubbling potjiekos, good wine and local venison delicacies all served by candlelight.
Bush braai’s are normally on Saturday nights and by arrangement on weekdays, weather permitting.
Private Bush Braai’s

A sensory quintessential African experience and a delight for the senses; every detail carefully planned to create an extravagant food experience, in an awe-inspiring setting under the natural theatre of African stars.
A Bonamanzi must-do!
Breakfast Game Drive, Walk or River Cruise
A 1 ½ hour game drive, walk or river cruise followed by a sumptuous breakfast in the bush – champagne optional.
A stylish alfresco display of fresh fruits, breads, yoghurts, cereals and breakfast pies and croissants, against a breathe-taking back drop of incredible scenery; with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee drifting through the bush, may seem like a mirage when you first set eyes upon it, after an invigorating session of game viewing.
As you sit down at your immaculately set table glimmering under the light of the morning sun – it can be hard to imagine a more perfect dining experience.
Conference and events
The biggest headache for conference and events organisers is finding a place where people aren’t going to head off on their own in small groups.
It’s really important to forge a group spirit with no outside influence.
That’s what makes Bonamanzi Game Reserve so ideal – top class facilities and loads for delegates to do in their leisure time.
At Bonamanzi Game Reserve we understand that there is nothing worse than sitting around all day in a conference, eating, drinking and feeling sluggish after getting no exercise for two or three days.
So, to keep your group bright eyed and responsive during the day, we lay on plenty of energetic and enjoyable activities.
The Ndlovu Venue can hold up to 500 people cinema style and our Pelican Center up to 40 people.
Both are situated in the heart of the Lalapanzi Camp and both venues are equipped with WiFi access.
Bonamanzi has the facilities and setting for any couple’s perfect wedding day. Whether you want a bush-style reception or a smarter affair in our Lalapanzi Restaurant, Bonamanzi will cater for your needs.
Wedding couples can exchange vows in a charming thatched viewing lounge or on a picturesque island over looking a waterhole. Bonamanzi’s natural canvas offers exquisite back drops for photographs and newly-weds can honeymoon in a romantic Tree House in solitude.
Our wedding venues range from an exclusive and luxury location, to the majestic Ndlovu Venue with one of the biggest thatched rooftops in the southern hemisphere.
Ndlovu Wedding Venue
Ndlovu means “elephant” in Zulu. Majestic, like this African creature, is the architecture of the Ndlovu Venue. Its thatch rooftop is the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere and the hall provides room to seat up to 350 guests.
A generous gallery at the end of the building completes its uniqueness – a space with limitless purposes: it could be a stage for an orchestra or give the youngest wedding guests their own playground on top of the reception. Built out of stone, wood and thatch, this great hall integrates itself wonderfully into the surrounding ancient sand forest, and is a splendid reflection of African construction, a real mixture of traditional and modern architecture. Long glass doors stretch on both sides of the venue and, opened up, give this indoor facility an outdoor flair.
At weddings, guests can be in and outside on the open terrace, and enjoy the spectacular view into bush and wildlife. The flames of the bonfire from the great fire place at the end of the terrace draw an unrivaled picture of African charm on the faces of the guests grouping around it. The Ndlovu Venue is perfect for great wedding receptions but also for a smaller group of guests (from 30 up to 350 guests).
It is situated in the heart of the Lalapanzi Camp, therefore the ceremony and welcome drinks could be on the Palm Island and Viewing Deck. For an exclusive peak into the limitless opportunities on offer take a look at the Wedding Album on our Facebook page. We, at Bonamanzi Game Reserve, are here to help you – to make it the most memorable day of your life.

Throughout history, essential oils have had respected healing applications in the herbal tradition, but it was not until the 1930’s that the term “Aromatherapy” was coined. When inhaled, essential oil molecules enter the nasal passages where they stimulate the olfactory nerve & through a series of complex processes, send messages directly into the limbic area of the brain. The limbic system is the seat of memory, learning & emotion. The inhalation of essential oil molecules causes physiological changes within the body via the nervous, endocrine & immune systems.
